The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

For the past 40 years I've worked as a Senior Engineer and part time photographer, both professionally and for personal fulfillment. Much of my personal photography has reflected my worldwide travels. Shortly after graduating from Penn State in 1969 with a BS in Fuel Science, I was sent on a military assignment with the USN Sixth Fleet Staff. The ship was homeported in Gaeta, Italy. From 1969-71 therefore, I lived in Gaeta, Italy as a US service member. I took that opportunity to learn Italian, live in the community, made many friends and be a prolific photographer (photojournalist) with my Leica M3. In 1971 I was discharged from the Navy and returned to my mom's home in Syosset, NY. I also was fortunate to have some of my photographs published, for the first time, in a 1/2 page article in Newsday of Long Island. In 1977, I landed my first real job as an engineer. I also made some major strides in photography. In 1975-76 Penn State Alumni magazine did a 6 page feature of my photographs. In 1975-76 Penn State also hosted a traveling exhibit of my photos, called "Kids on Kamera." The exhibit went to all Penn State main and coordinating campuses. In 1982, I was hired as a senior engineer in my father's former co. Bechtel Corp. of Gaithersburg, MD. I bought a house in 1983. I lived in that house for the next 21 years.
